Permanently removing an adapter from the 5105-22E, 9008-22L, 9009-22A, 9009-22G, 9223-22H, or 9223-22S system

To permanently remove an adapter from the system, complete the steps in this procedure.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that you have the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap on and that the ESD clip is plugged into a ground jack or connected to an unpainted metal surface. If not, do so now.
  2. Set the adapter latch (A) in the target slot to the open position by rotating the latch (A) in the direction that is shown in the following figure.

  3. Carefully grasp the adapter (B) by its top edge or tailstock, and remove the adapter from the slot as shown in the following figure.
    Attention: A pin on the tailstock of the adapter resembles a removable screw. Do not remove this pin. It is required for correct alignment and seating.

  4. Place the removed adapter on an approved ESD surface.
  5. After permanently removing an adapter from the system, you must install a filler in the empty slot. To install a filler, complete the following steps:
    1. Carefully grasp the filler and align the filler with the slot and its connector on the system backplane.
    2. Press the filler firmly into the slot.
