Learn how to remove a PCIe adapter from
the IBM®
Power® System S812LC (8348-21C) system.
Procedure
- Attach the electrostatic discharge
(ESD) wrist strap.
Attention: - Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD)
wrist strap to the front ESD jack, to the rear ESD jack, or to an unpainted metal surface of your
hardware to prevent the electrostatic discharge from damaging your hardware.
- When you use an ESD wrist strap, follow all
electrical safety procedures. An ESD wrist strap is used for static control. It does not increase or
decrease your risk of receiving electric shock when using or working on electrical
equipment.
- If you do not have an ESD wrist strap, just prior
to removing the product from ESD packaging and installing or replacing hardware, touch an unpainted
metal surface of the system for a minimum of 5 seconds.
- If you are removing a (FC EC3S) PCIe Gen3 SAS/SATA RAID adapter, complete this step. Otherwise
skip this step and go to step 3.
Note: The supercapacitor module card is shipped together with the (FC EC3S) PCIe Gen3 SAS/SATA RAID
adapter as a single FRU and therefore must also be removed when the SAS RAID adapter is
removed.
Warning: The supercapacitor module must be in a discharged state to avoid damage to the
adapter. To ensure that an installed unit is discharged, switch your system off, then wait five
minutes. After an abnormal shutdown, wait three minutes after backup is complete, then remove the
unit.
Label and remove the cables from the PCIe
adapter.
- Loosen and remove the screw (A) that secures the supercapacitor module
card to the system chassis in PCIe adapter slot
number one by using a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the supercapacitor module card
(B), as shown in Figure 1.
- Go to step 5.
- If needed, label and remove
the cables from the PCIe adapter.
Also, if needed, label and remove any plugs that extend out of the PCIe adapter.
- Loosen and remove the screw (A) that secures the PCIe adapter to the system chassis by using a Phillips
screwdriver. Remove the PCIe adapter
(B), as shown in Figure 1.
