Creating client logical partitions by using the Create Partitions wizard

You can use the Create Partitions wizard from the Integrated Virtualization Manager to create a new client logical partition on your managed system.

Use any role other than View Only to perform this task. However, do not use the Service Representative (SR) user role for this task because it cannot configure the storage in the Create Partition wizard.

If the client partition that you plan to create is an IBM® i partition, ensure that you understand its limitations and restrictions when running as a client of the management partition. For details, see Limitations and restrictions for IBM i client partitions on systems managed by the Integrated Virtualization Manager.

To create a logical partition on your managed system, complete the following steps in the Integrated Virtualization Manager:

  1. From the navigation area, select View/Modify Partitions under Partition Management. The View/Modify Partitions page is displayed.
  2. Click *Create Partition... The Create Partition wizard is displayed.
    1. Follow the instructions for each step of the wizard, and click Next when you complete each step.
    2. When the Summary step is displayed, confirm that the information displayed in this step is correct, and click Finish.
  3. From the navigation area, select View/Modify Partitions under Partition Management. The View/Modify Partitions page is displayed and lists the new partition.
