Changing the firmware update policy on a System i model
If you are using a System i® model, you can configure your system to allow firmware updates from either the Hardware Management Console (HMC) or through the IBM® i operating system.
These options are only valid
if you are using a System i model
that is managed by an HMC.
Otherwise setting the source using this method is ignored by the server.
Important: If you are using a System p server or a POWER®7Power Systems™ server
that is managed by an HMC,
you must use the HMC to
install your firmware fixes.
To
perform this operation, you must have one of the following authority
levels:
- Administrator
- Authorized service provider
To change the firmware update policy, perform
the following task:
- On the ASMI Welcome pane, specify your user ID and password, and click Log In.
- In the navigation area, expand System Configuration.
- Select Firmware Update Policy.
- Select the appropriate source from the selection list. Note: If you choose the HMC as the source for a firmware update, the HMCmust be used to perform all tasks of the update.
- Click Save settings to complete the operation.
