PowerVM® Express® Edition is designed for users looking for an introduction to more advanced virtualization features.
The PowerVM Express Edition includes the following components of the PowerVM Editions hardware feature:
The Express Edition is available on some IBM® Power Systems™ servers and on all IBM BladeCenter® blade servers that have Power Architecture® technology. To use the Express Edition, the system must be managed by the Integrated Virtualization Manager.
Using the Express Edition, you can create up to two client logical partitions that use virtual Small Computer System Interface (SCSI), NPIV, and shared processors, also called Micro-Partitioning technology. To create more than two client logical partitions that use shared processors, virtual SCSI, or NPIV, you must purchase either the Standard Edition or the Enterprise Edition and enter the activation code.
An activation code is required to enable the PowerVM Editions hardware feature. When you specify the feature with the initial system order, the firmware is activated to support the components of the feature. If you order the feature separately from the server, you can enter the code by using the IVM.
