You can use the Integrated Virtualization Manager to increase or decrease
the amount of physical memory that is assigned to the shared memory
pool. You can perform this task, if the managed system supports the PowerVM™ Active Memory Sharing technology
for using shared memory.
Use any role
other than View Only to perform this task. The
View Only role can view the properties, but it cannot change them.
You
can increase the size of the shared memory pool only
if enough physical memory is available in the system to do so. If
you want to assign more memory to the pool than is available, you
must decrease the amount of assigned memory for one or more partitions
that use dedicated memory or you must add more physical memory to
the server.
To change the size of the shared
memory pool, complete the
following steps in the Integrated Virtualization Manager:
- From the navigation area, select View/Modify
Shared Memory Pool under Partition Management. The Memory tab of the View/Modify
System Properties page is displayed.
- In
the Pending field for Assigned
memory, specify the amount of memory that you want to
assign to the shared memory pool.
- In the Pending field
for Maximum memory, specify the maximum amount
of physical system memory that the shared memory pool can have for
distribution to shared memory partitions. The pending maximum
amount of memory for the shared memory pool must be equal to, or greater
than, the pending assigned amount of memory. Although you can specify
a maximum value that is greater than the total amount of memory installed
in the system, the assigned memory cannot be changed to a value higher
than what is available on the system.
