After you replace the service processor assembly or time-of-day
battery, complete the following procedure to restore service processor
settings when your system is managed by an HMC version 7, or later.
Note: If you are servicing a model
55x,
9113-550, or
OpenPower® 720, refer to
Troubleshooting
HMC setup for additional service processor settings.
- Verify the following cables:
- Choose from the following options:
- If you use Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) IP addressing,
continue with step 3.
- If you use Static IP addressing, continue with step 6.
- Check to see if the managed system
is accessible by performing the following steps:
- In the HMC's Navigation area, expand Systems Management.
- Select the managed system.
- In the contents area, view the status of your managed system.
.
The status of the managed system will be Pending Authentication.
This indicates that the HMC's access password (to the service processor
assembly) has not yet been set.
Does the object representing the managed system with an IP
address listed appear?
- No: Go to step 4.
- Yes: Continue with step 8.
- Important: The next
step is only applicable in a model 520, 570, or 9116-561 with customer-installed
service processor cards, and is not used during a battery replacement.
- If you are not able to access the managed system,
reset the service processor network interfaces (and passwords) by
doing the following:
- Remove the service processor assembly. Do not remove the time-of-day
battery. Refer to Remove the model 285 or 520 service processor assembly, or Remove the model 570 or 9116-561 service processor assembly.
- Move both service processor reset toggle switches A from
their current position to the opposite position.

toggle switches

To locate
the reset switch for other models, see Finding part locations in
the Service provider information.
- Replace the model 285 or 520 service processor assembly, or Replace the model 570 or 9116-561 service processor assembly.
- Continue with step 8.
- If the network connection uses static IP
address assignments, perform the following steps:
- Verify that all system power cables are plugged into power outlets.
Important: Do not start the system at this time.
- Connect a client with a Web browser directly to the service processor
network port using one of the following URLs:
- Log on to the ASMI with the user ID admin and the default
password admin.
- If prompted, change the admin user ID's password. For details,
refer to Changing
the password.
- Configure network access using the static IP address.
- From the ASMI navigation area, expand Network Services.
- Click Network Configuration.
- If your service processor connects to the network using a static
IP address on Ethernet port HMC1, fill in the section labeled Network
Interface eth0.
- If your service processor connects to the network using a static
IP address on Ethernet port HMC2, fill in the section labeled interface
eth1
- Ensure that the following fields are filled in correctly.

- Click Continue and verify your settings
on the Network Configuration panel.
- Click Save Settings to complete the static
IP Address configuration.
Attention: If you change the
IP of the port you are currently connected to, you will loose connectivity
when you save the settings. You might have to reconfigure the system
you are currently using to connect. Also, you will need to log back
into ASMI once connected.
- Continue with step 7.
- Check if the managed system is accessible
by performing the following steps:
- In the HMC's Navigation area, expand Systems Management.
- Select the managed system.
- In the contents area, view the status of your managed system.
.
The status of the managed system will be Pending Authentication.
This indicates that the HMC's access password (to the service processor
assembly) has not yet been set.
- To set the initial password for admin, general,
and the HMC access passwords, perform the following steps:
- In the HMC's Navigation area, expand Systems Management.
- Select the managed system.
- Select Operations > Change Password.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to enter any necessary passwords.
- Click OK.
- Access ASMI from the HMC and reenter
the following settings:
- Power/Restart Control
- System Service Aids, including Call-Home/Call-In setup
- System Information
- System Configuration, including System Name
- Performance Setup
- Login Profile
- Important step: Reenter the processing unit power control
network identifier. For example, you would use these identifiers for
the following models:
- B4 (Model 285, 520 or 52A)
- B2 (Model 570 or 9116-561)
- B3 (Model 570 or 9116-561 with one or more
secondary units
Important notes: - The value should be overwritten and saved even if it appears to
be correct for your system configuration.
- Once you set this option, the service processor assembly will
restart. After the system restarts, you will need to log into the
ASMI again.
For information on other models, refer to Changing the processing
unit identifier.
- Reenter any service processor settings that you may have
set using operating system commands. You should have recorded these
settings before removing the service processor.
- Choose from the following options:
- If you are working on a model 570 or 9116-561, continue with step 12.
- If you are not working on a model 570 or 9116-561, you might need to
update to the latest server firmware level. Refer to Server firmware
fixes. Then continue with step 13.
- Note the following:
Important: If you replaced a service processor in a
570 or
9116-561, and the service
processor that was replaced contains a later level of server firmware
than you were previously using, you will need to consider some options.
Refer to
Table 2.
- When your system goes to the recovery state,
restore the logical partition profiles. Refer to Restoring profile
data using the HMC.
- Start the system or logical partition.
- Once the system starts and the logical partitions are activated,
verify the time of day for each logical partition. If necessary, set
the time of day using the appropriate operating system command for
each logical partition.
- Verify the installed part.
