Removing a disk drive or solid-state drive from the 5147-024 or ESLS storage enclosure with the power turned on in Linux

Find information about removing a disk drive or solid-state drive (SSD) from an enclosure with the Linux operating system or Linux logical partition that controls the drive location powered on.

To remove a disk drive or an SSD from an enclosure, complete the following steps:
  1. Ensure that you have the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap attached. If not, attach it now.
  2. When the identify LED turns on solid, slide the terracotta release latch up gently to unlock the drive handle.
  3. Grasp the handle and pull the drive partially out of the slot.
  4. Grasp the front of the drive and pull it out from the slot, ensuring that you support the bottom of the drive, as shown in Figure 1.

  5. Support the bottom of the drive as you slide it out of the system. Hold the drive by its sides.
  6. If you are removing more than one drive, repeat the steps in this procedure until all drives are removed.
  7. If you are not installing a replacement drive, install a filler in the empty slot to ensure proper air flow for cooling.
