Resetting your IBM Master Data Management service

Reset your IBM Master Data Management service to remove all data, configuration, and history.

Important: Resetting IBM Master Data Management is a disruptive action. By resetting, you will lose all of the master data, relationships, groups, hierarchies, history, data model definitions, and configuration settings stored in the service. There is no way to undo a reset.

Reset functionality is only available for IBM Master Data Management Essential plan instances.

After you reset the service, you will start again with a fresh service instance, similar to a mobile device getting a factory reset. After resetting your master data instance, you must start again by defining data types, adding data assets, running matching, and configuring other settings and preferences.

Required permissions
To reset the service, you must have Model Manager level access for the IBM Master Data Management service.

For information about how to assign Model Manager access to a user or group, see Assigning model manager role access.

Before you begin

Before resetting, consider backing up the IBM Master Data Management service, exporting your master data, or exporting a configuration snapshot. Any data that is not backed up will be lost.

Resetting the IBM Master Data Management service

Only continue with the reset if you are certain that you want to remove the current service configuration and data. Once you start a reset, the operation cannot be paused, canceled, or undone.

To reset your IBM Master Data Management service:

  1. From the Master data navigation menu, click Instance settings instance settings icon to open the instance settings page.

  2. In the Reset instance data section, click Reset instance.

  3. Read the warning message, then confirm that you want to reset the instance by typing "RESET INSTANCE". Click Reset instance.

The reset operation takes several minutes to complete, depending on the amount of data in your service instance. During the reset, the service is unavailable.

If the reset fails, click Retry. The reset operation will attempt to resume from the step where it previously failed. If the reset continues to fail, contact a system administrator.
