Configuring the Data Virtualization Remote Agent

Using a Remote Agent, you can connect to and get information from multiple data sources at the same time. Configure and start using the Remote Agent in Data Virtualization

The Data Virtualization Remote Agent is a Java tool that you use to provide the following capabilities to Data Virtualization:

Connecting to load balanced database servers.
Providing access to local files on the server where they are installed.
Improving performance as a result of additional parallelism and data locality.

The Remote Agent is deployed remotely from your Data Virtualization instance that runs either in Cloud Pak for Data on IBM Cloud or in a Red Hat® OpenShift® Container Platform environment.

To configure and to start using the Remote Agent in Data Virtualization, complete the following tasks:

Generating the configuration for the Data Virtualization Remote Agent
Deploying and starting the Remote Agent:
- Deploying the Data Virtualization Remote Agent on Linux
  - Manually starting the Data Virtualization Remote Agent on Linux
  - Automatically start the Data Virtualization Remote Agent by adding a systemctl service on Linux
- Deploying the Data Virtualization Remote Agent on Windows
- Upgrading the Data Virtualization Remote Agent on Windows
  Note: Complete this task only if you installed the remote agent from a previous version of Data Virtualization, and then upgraded to the newest version of Data Virtualization.
