Changing hardware for one or more consoles by using an HMC Classic or HMC Enhanced interface

Learn how to change multiple hardware consoles, such as moving two or more adapters, while the logical partition and managed system remain powered on while using tan HMC Classic or HMC Enhanced interface.

To exchange adapters by using an HMC Classic or HMC Enhanced interface, complete the following steps:
  1. Select the managed system and logical partition where you want to exchange adapters:
    1. In the navigation area, click Systems Management > Servers.
    2. In the contents area, select the managed system with which you want to work.
    3. In the contents area, select the logical partition that you want to change.
  2. To remove an adapter, complete the following steps:
    1. Click Tasks > Dynamic Logical Partitioning > Physical Adapters > Move or Remove to display a list of adapters that can be removed dynamically. If your adapter is not listed, you might have to power off the logical partition and the managed system to change the adapter.
    2. Select the adapter to remove dynamically, and then click OK.
    3. Follow any additional instructions until you have removed the appropriate adapter.
  3. To add a new adapter after you have removed one, complete the following steps:
    1. Click Tasks > Dynamic Logical Partitioning > Physical Adapters > Add to display a list of adapters that can be removed dynamically. If your adapter is not listed, you might have to power off the logical partition and the managed system to change the adapter.
    2. Select the adapter to be added, and then click OK.
    3. Follow additional instructions, if any.
  4. Attach any necessary cables to the adapter.
