Report Studio User Interface

You can create custom reports by using the Cognos Report Studio user interface.

The Report Studio user interface has two panes, Insertable Objects pane and Properties pane, along with an explorer bar and a work area to help you in creating reports.

The following table describes the various sections of Report Studio user interface that is used to create reports.

Section Description
Insertable Objects pane

This pane contains folders with elements that you can add to a report.

The following tabs are available in Insertable Objects pane:
  • Source Tab: This tab contains folders and elements from the package that is selected for the report.
  • Data Items Tab: This tab contains the queries that are created in the report.
  • Toolbox Tab: This tab contains various objects that you can add to the report, such as text, graphics, prompts, and so forth. Prompt is a report element that asks for parameter values before you run the report.
Properties pane This pane lists the properties that you can set for an object in a report.
Explorer Bar
You can use the following functions of Explorer bar to work with different parts of a report:
  • Page Explorer: Used to go to a specific report page or prompt page.
  • Query Explorer: Used to create or modify queries.
  • Condition Explorer: Used to add conditional formatting to a report.
Work Area The work area is where you design reports.
