Configure a file system collector to collect documents
from specified locations in your file system, according to the schedule
and the filter criteria that you define.
Before you begin
Before Content Collector can collect documents,
you must configure a source connector otherwise, Content Collector
cannot access the source system.
About this task
A file system collector (FSC Collector)
collects files from the file server and submits the files to the appropriate
task route for further processing. The collected files are processed
as defined in the task route, most commonly they are archived into
a repository.
Procedure
To configure a file system collector:
- Open
the Configuration Manager and
click Task Routes.
- Create or select the task route
to which you want to add the collector.
- In the Toolbox,
click and add it to the task route diagram.
- On the General page
in the right pane, define general settings, such as whether to create
hash keys for the collected files or to collect content type information.
- On the Schedule page,
set a collector schedule by specifying when and how often the collector
checks the monitored folders for files to collect.

On the Collection Sources page, specify the file
system folders to be monitored by the collector.
It is also possible to export and import collection sources. This
is helpful when you need to manage large sets of collection sources. You can work with XML and
CSV files. When you import collection sources, you can select to append the data to the
existing list, or to clear or overwrite existing definitions. When you export collection
sources, the folder names and the folder depth for monitoring subfolders are written to the
file.
Tip: When you work with XML files, you can package collection sources,
user-defined metadata, and list definitions into one file, which is of advantage when you need
to port the configuration data.
- Specify filter criteria to collect a subset
of file system documents from the selected collection sources.
- Save your settings.
