Back up and restore OMS

An SI can use the Backup and Restore OMS UCD process to back up the database and configurations of the pre-production environment and later use it to restore the application. This process fails in other environments.

About this task

Use case: As an SI, let's say that you are planning a test on a non- preproduction environment that requires an altered set of configurations and specialized master data for the test. In such a scenario, you will first use the Backup operation to take a snapshot of the application settings. You will then load all master data and run the Configuration Deployment Tool (CDT) with the planned configurations on that environment. After the test is complete, you will use the Restore operation to rollback the application to its original state for future use with a different set of configurations.

You can take multiple snapshots with or without restore. However, when a backup is taken, the earlier backup is deleted. So you can have only one backup at a time. With this process, you can baseline a specific state of the application configuration and restore it later.

Procedure

To back up or restore IBM Sterling® Order Management System, complete the following steps:

  1. Accessing the IBM UrbanCode Deploy Selfserv tool dashboard.
  2. In the Applications tab, click the IBM Sterling Order Management System application. The Environments tab is displayed.
This tab is the entry point to run processes for an application and displays all the environments that you can access.
  3. Click Image that shows the Request Process for the pre-production environment.
  4. In the Run Process window, from the Process list, select Backup and Restore OMS.
Image that shows the Run Process dialog and Backup and Restore OMS process selection.
  5. From the Choose the operation list, select either Backup or Restore.
    Notes:
    • You can restore only a backup that is created by using the Backup and Restore OMS process.
    • You can restore only a backup that is created from the same version of IBM Sterling Order Management System and not from a different version. However, you can restore backups between fix packs.
  6. Click Submit.

Results

The process begins and the Process execution log screen is displayed where you can view the progress and status of the process and subprocesses. The log can be used for troubleshooting.

After the backup is successfully restored, the pre-production environment has the customization and configurations available at the time of backup creation. After verifying the restored configurations, you must manually start the agent and integration servers. All queues are cleared as part of the restore operation.
