General Requirements

Operating System Compatibility

IBM Live Migration Service allows the replication of any source machine, whether physical, virtual or cloud-based into a target platform such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure for a large variety of operating systems.

Windows:

NoteIt is recommended to install all available Windows updates on the machine.

Windows source machines need to have at least 2 GB of free space in order to launch a target machine successfully.

The following operating systems can be migrated using IBM Live Migration Service.

Note

GCP: Windows Server 2003
When installing on Windows 2003, please ensure that Driver Signing is Off.

  1. Right-click on My Computer.
  2. Select Properties to open System Properties.
  3. In the System Properties dialog box, select the Hardware tab.
  4. Click on the Driver Signing button.
  5. Select Ignore - Install the software anyway and don’t ask for my approval.
  6. Select Make this action the system default
Note

GCP: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 32 bit Run these commands in CMD on the Source machine after installing the Migration Agent on the machine:

  1. cd "c:\Program Files\CloudEndure\google_2003\x86"
  2. devcon.exe install "vioscsi.inf" "pci\ven_1af4&dev_1004&subsys_00081af4&rev_00"
  3. devcon.exe Dp_add netkvm.inf
Note

GCP: (Microsoft Windows Server 2008 64 bit)
Run these commands in CMD on the Source machine after installing the Migration Agent on the machine:

  1. copy /Y "c:\Program Files(x86)\CloudEndure\google_2003\x86\google_2003\x86\devcon.exe" "c:\Program Files(x86)\CloudEndure\google_2003\x86\google_2003\x86_X64"
  2. cd "c:\Program Files (x86)\CloudEndure\google_2003\x86\google_2003\x86_X64"
  3. devcon.exe install "vioscsi.inf" "pci\ven_1af4&dev_1004&subsys_00081af4&rev_00"
  4. devcon.exe Dp_add netkvm.inf
NoteAWS: (Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit) The C5 and M5 family types will work with RHEL 7.0+ or CentOS 7.0+ in AWS in a Linux environment and with Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2016 in a Windows environment.
Note

GCP: (Microsoft Windows Server 2012 64 bit) Run these commands in CMD on the Source machine after installing the Migration Agent on the machine :

  1. cd "c:\Program Files (x86)\CloudEndure\"
  2. CertMgr.Exe -add -add google2008.cer -s -r localMachine trustedpublisher
  3. devcon.exe Dp_add google_drivers_w2008\netkvm.inf
  4. devcon.exe Dp_add google_drivers_w2008\nvme.inf
  5. devcon.exe install "google_drivers_w2008\vioscsi.inf" "pci\ven_1af4&dev_1004&subsys_00081af4&rev_00"
Note

AWS (Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 64 bit / Microsoft Windows Server 2016 64 bit) The C5 and M5 family types will work with RHEL 7.0+ or CentOS 7.0+ in AWS in a Linux environment and with Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2016 in a Windows environment.

Linux:

NoteEnsure that you have Python installed on the machine (version 2.4+, version 3.0+).

Only machines using the GRUB bootloader are supported

The following operating system can be migrated using IBM Live Migration Service.

Note

GCP: (SUSE Linux (SLES) 11 and higher/ Oracle Linux 5.0 and higher).

  1. For SUSE, RHEL, and Oracle Linux, you must have an existing license to use the operating system. It is your responsibility to determine if you are properly licensed to run the OS. For Windows, any existing license will be converted to Google Cloud Platform's pay-as-you-go licensing.
  2. Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.0 and higher
Note

GCP ( Debian Linux 8 and higher /Ubuntu 12.04 and higher).

  1. Ubuntu machines running a kernel version lower than 3.19 are not supported by GCP and cannot be replicated by IBM Live Migration Service. Only Kernel 3.19 or above (or a 3.4 kernel or above with virtio_scsi enabled) are supported for Debian/Ubuntu with GCP.
  2. AWS : (Debian Linux 8 and higher/Ubuntu 12.04 and higher)
  3. Only Kernel 3.x or above are supported for Debian/Ubuntu with AWS.
Note

GCP : Redhat Drivers must be installed . Add this link: https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/compute-centos5-drivers

AWS : Redhat According to AWS requirements, machines running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) must have Cloud Access (BYOL) licenses to be copied to AWS.

Azure : Redhat Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.0+ only supported in Azure.

CentOS 5.0 and higher and Redhat

  • The C5 and M5 family types will work with RHEL 7.0+ or CentOS 7.0+ in AWS in a Linux environment and with Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2016 in a Windows environment
  • Kernel versions 2.6.32-71 is not supported in RHEL 6.0 and CentOS 6.0 in AWS
Note
  • Windows 2003 `- Driver signing should be switched off
  • Kernel versions lower than 3.19 is not supported for Ubuntu
Note

General Azure Information:

  • Azure only supports volumes up to 2TB in size for boot volumes and 4TB for data volumes. Therefore, IBM Live Migration service will not replicate a volume that is larger than 2TB for boot volumes and 4TB for data volumes.
  • Kernel versions earlier than 2.6.18-164 are not supported by IBM Live Migration service. Therefore, machines that run these kernel versions cannot be replicated by IBM Live Migration service.
Note

Vcenter Information: Kernel versions earlier than 2.6.18-164 are not supported by CloudEndure. Therefore, machines that run these kernel versions cannot be replicated by IBM Live Migration service.
