Starting the HMC
Turn on the HMC by setting both the display and system unit to the On position. The initialization window, which includes the copyright information, is displayed. Learn about how to log in to the HMC interface.
- Enter the user ID and password combination that is assigned to you.Note: On HMC Version 8.6.0.1, you can choose from the following login options:
- Login: HMC Classic or HMC Enhanced+
Select which software interface to use when you log in to the HMC. The HMC Classic interface provides access to all traditional functions of the HMC and the HMC Enhanced+ interface provides graphical views of systems, partitions, and virtual I/O servers and simplified navigation.
- HMC Classic
- Displays the standard GUI without the enhanced PowerVM® features.
- HMC Enhanced+
- Displays a new view of an entirely redesigned HMC management interface that provides an intuitive interface work environment with graphical views of systems, partitions, and virtual I/O servers and simplified navigation.
- Click Sign In.
The HMC workplace window allows you to work with tasks for your console and managed systems. Not all tasks are available for each user ID. The user role that is assigned to your user ID determines what tasks you are able to perform. For example, if you are assigned a user ID with the operator role, you have access to all the tasks that have operator access. See HMC tasks, user roles, IDs, and associated commands for a listing of all tasks and the user roles for which the tasks are available.
If at any time you do not know or remember what user ID you are currently logged in to the HMC, look at the task bar on the top of the Welcome page or you can click HMC Management in the navigation pane. Then click Manage Users and Tasks from the work pane (see Manage Users and Tasks for more information).
