HA cabling considerations

There are different types of cables to consider with high availability.

Correct cabling is one of the most important aspects of planning for a multi-initiator and HA configuration. For RAID configurations with disk expansion drawers, correct cabling is required to provide redundancy between each controller and the disk expansion drawer. For JBOD configurations, correct cabling is required, but generally provides much less redundancy between each controller and the disk expansion drawer. Thus there is better SAS fabric redundancy for RAID configurations versus JBOD configurations.

To see examples of how to cable HA configurations, see the section entitled Serial attached SCSI cable planning.

Note: Some systems have SAS RAID adapters integrated on the system boards. Separate SAS cables are not required to connect the two integrated SAS RAID adapters to each other.
