Replacing the microprocessor board (system planar) for the TS7650 Appliance or TS7650G (Gateway), ProtecTIER V3.3.6

Complete this task to replace the microprocessor board (system planar) in 3958 DD4, DD5, and AP1 (DD4-based) servers.

Procedure

Perform the following steps to install the microprocessor board (system planar) in the server:

  1. Insert the microprocessor board in the server at an angle; then, slide the assembly toward the back of the server. Make sure that all the cables are clear of the assembly as you install it in the server.
  2. Tighten the thumbscrews  1  on the rear of the server (see Figure 1). The second hole from the left side, rear view is for mounting the two-node lock bracket when you add a second two-node system attachment. If you have a two-node server, reinstall this lock bracket.

  3. Install the microprocessors and heat sinks, if you removed them in a previous procedure (see Replacing a microprocessor and heat sink for the TS7650 Appliance or TS7650G (Gateway), ProtecTIER V3.3.6.
  4. If you have a single-node server without a memory expansion module that is attached, install the QPI wrap cards or fillers (see Replacing a QPI wrap card for the TS7650 Appliance or TS7650G (Gateway), ProtecTIER V3.3.6). If you have a two-node server or if your server is connected to a memory expansion module, reconnect the QPI cables.
  5. Connect the following cables: front fan, scalability LED, operator information panel, hard disk drive backplane, and CD/DVD power.
  6. Route the front USB and DVD/CD signal cables behind the hard disk drive backplane and to the side of the ServeRAID adapter connector.
  7. Install the memory card cage (see Replacing the memory card cage for the TS7650 Appliance or TS7650G (Gateway), ProtecTIER V3.3.6). Make sure that all the cables are clear of the cage as you install it in the server.
  8. Install the middle fan (see Replacing the middle hot-swap fan for the TS7650 Appliance or TS7650G (Gateway), ProtecTIER V3.3.6).
  9. Connect the signal cables to the ServeRAID adapter and install the adapter (see Replacing the RAID controller with the M5015 ServeRAID adapter for the TS7650 Appliance or TS7650G (Gateway), ProtecTIER V3.3.6).
  10. Install the memory cards and memory card fillers (see Replacing a memory card for the TS7650 Appliance or TS7650G (Gateway), ProtecTIER V3.3.6).
  11. Install the I/O board shuttle (see Replacing the I/O board shuttle for the TS7650 Appliance or TS7650G (Gateway), ProtecTIER V3.3.6). Be sure to thread the USB and DVD/CD signal cables through the server and connect them to the I/O board shuttle.
  12. Install the power supplies (see Replacing a hot-swap power supply for the TS7650 Appliance or TS7650G (Gateway), ProtecTIER V3.3.6).
  13. Install the top cover bracket (see Replacing the top cover bracket for the TS7650 Appliance or TS7650G (Gateway), ProtecTIER V3.3.6).
  14. Install the top cover (see Replacing the top cover for the TS7650 Appliance or TS7650G (Gateway), ProtecTIER V3.3.6).
  15. Connect the cables and power cords.
  16. Slide the server into the rack.
  17. Turn on all attached devices and the server. A firmware update occurs when the server operator system reboots.
Note: If the server does not boot up, or there are error messages in the IMM log indicating FW mismatch, there might be a problem with the server firmware versions. See Boot failure recovery for 3958 DD4, DD5, and AP1 (DD4-based) servers due to potential firmware mismatch.
  18. Restore the system configuration to the new microprocessor board, go to Restoring the system configuration of the 3958 DD4, DD5, and AP1 (DD4-based) servers for the TS7650 Appliance or TS7650G (Gateway), ProtecTIER V3.3.6
