Initial customer configuration of the AC1 control enclosures and storage implementation

After the AC1 nodes are initialized and a management IP address established, the customer uses the AC1 control enclosure management GUI to input initial setup information.

Before you begin

The customer should consider their particular storage implementation and the background information in the Configuring section of this IBM® Knowledge Center. The customer should also have on hand the following information:

Procedure

The customer uses the AC1 control enclosure management GUI to complete the following high-level tasks:

  1. From the AC1 management GUI, the customer chooses and creates a new password.
  2. Configure the date and time by using the NTP server.
  3. Review licensed functions.
Important: When prompted for the number of licenses, enter "1" as the number of External Virtualization licenses, even though the FlashSystem™ V840 does not require one.
  4. Perform a configuration and final check of the cluster.
    • In the Stretched System panel, select the No, this system will be located on one site option.
    • When you are prompted to include a companion node for redundancy, select the redundant node to connect to.
  5. Discover the 16 volumes on the AE1 storage enclosure. 16 MDisks should be visible.
  6. To place the MDisks in appropriate storage pools, select Pools -> MDisks The volumes that are created on the storage enclosure AE1 should appear under Unassigned MDisks.
Note: If the MDisks do not appear, run Actions -> Detect MDisks. In rare instances, Detect MDisks might not automatically appear in the Actions drop-down menu, because Unassigned MDisks is selected. In this case, the Unassigned MDisks icon is highlighted.

In this situation, to clear Unassigned MDisks, hold down the Ctrl key and left-click the highlighted Unassigned MDisks icon with the mouse. The highlight goes away after Unassigned MDisks is no longer selected. Detect MDisks is now available on the Actions drop-down menu, and you can run Actions -> Detect MDisks.

  7. Create the host-facing volumes.
  8. Create the host servers and applications.
  9. Map or bind the host-facing volumes to the defined hosts.
To record the configuration of the AC1 controller nodes, the customer can use the following table:
