Viewing host locations in Rack View
From the cluster management console, use to view the location of hosts in your cluster and to correlate host metrics. The rack view graphically displays hosts associated with a location on a rack or a chassis on a rack.
Once you associate hosts with locations using the rackconfig.sh command and set up your datasource to access the Rack View page, the hosts appear on the rack view in the location you specified.
Note: Any time you make changes to your rack and chassis configuration using rackconfig.sh, refresh the Rack View to see the changes.
- If you have associated a host with a location, the host location appears inside a rack:
- A rack server with a location on the rack uses the rack name, a starting unit number, and a
server height.

- A blade server with a location on a chassis on a rack uses the rack name and chassis name (which
is associated with a host). The chassis occupies at least two units on a rack. Hosts that are on a
chassis do not have a starting unit, they are inside the chassis itself.

By default, the system initializes four racks and four chassis using a basic rack and chassis configuration file.
- A rack server with a location on the rack uses the rack name, a starting unit number, and a
server height.
-
If you have not associated a host with a location, the host appears as Location Unspecified.
Available metrics
Use the metrics described in the following table to monitor host utilization in your cluster in
any of these modes:
- Normal view displays the host name without metrics data or with data for a maximum of two metrics. Mouse over the host name for host information and over the metrics icon for metrics data.
- Condensed view displays data for a maximum of two metrics without the host name. Mouse over the metrics icon for data.
- Heatmap view displays data centre cooling data for one selected metric. Mouse over the metric icon for data.
| Metric | Description |
|---|---|
| CPU Usage | CPU utilization of host in percent (%) |
| Memory Usage | Memory utilization of host in percent (%) |
| Disk I/O Rate | Throughput to disks attached directly to host, in KB per second |
| Paging Rate | Virtual memory paging rate in pages per second |
| Local Disk Usage | Total disk usage on all job directories in the cluster |
| NIC I/O Rate | NIC input/output rate per second in the cluster |
| Swap Usage | Virtual memory (swap space) utilization in MB |
| 1-minute Load | Load this host carries, averaged over the last minute |
By default, the CPU Usage and Memory Usage metrics display in normal view. To view other metrics, select from the options in the drop-down list.
Data range configuration
Configure the data range for all available metrics in the dashboard.properties configuration file, located under $EGO_TOP/gui/conf/appearance/.
