Support for skipping blank pages

In IBM Datacap V9.1.1 and later, you can skip the blank pages during scan process, by using the Skip Blank Page option under Advanced Task scanner settings. After you configure this option, the setting is persisted.

Not all the scanners support the Skip Blank Page option. For the scanners that support this feature, the option is available in the scanner properties, for example, Scanning Side, that contains options such as, DuplexSkip Blank Page, as a choice list.

When you select the Duplex option, the scanner performs duplex scanning. If you select Skip Blank Page option, the scanner performs duplex scanning in such way that, for the pages with one side empty (blank), the blank side is not included in the scanned pages.

The following table describes the expected results for the various combinations of Duplex option, the Skip Blank Page option, and the scanner support.

Table 1. Scanner settings
Duplex option Skip Blank Page option Expected Result
Selected Not selected Scan output is duplex.
Selected Selected

If scanner does not support skip blank pages feature, the Scan output is duplex.

If scanner supports skip blank page feature, the blank pages are not included in the scanned images.

Not selected Not selected Scan output is simplex.
Not selected Selected

If scanner does not support skip blank page feature, the scan output is simplex.

If scanner supports skip blank page feature, the scan output is duplex.

The Speed Scan client scanner properties reflect the defaults in the task settings, or the custom scanner settings if the selected scan source has custom settings.

When you select a scanner that has custom scanner settings, its default settings are used to populate the scanner properties on scan client UI. If there are no custom scanner settings for a selected scanner, the general task settings scanner defaults are used.

The users that belong to a user group that has edit privileges can modify the properties from the Scan UI before scanning. Changes that are made on the Scan UI do not change defaults set, but rather are used to override defaults during scanning.

The values that are displayed in the Speed Scan client UI during scan are the same values that are used to perform scan for all scan operators.
