This glossary provides terms and definitions for the Maximo for Civil Infrastructure software and products.

A
- access item
- A point of access in an aircraft, such as an access panel, hatch, or door.
B
- batch
- A quantity of parts that were typically produced at the same time by using a controlled process and are typically received into inventory after inspection.
- block time
- The total amount of elapsed time in hours and minutes from the first movement of an aircraft from its parking position at the departure location until the wheels stop and all engines are shut down at the parking position in the destination location.
- borrow order
- A record that tracks a piece of equipment that is borrowed, typically for no charge, for a specified duration of time.
- build item
- A component in the model, such as a subassembly or system.
- build position
- A position within a model build hierarchy that a build item is associated with.
C
- cannibalization
- A process that uses a working component from an aircraft that is not in service and replaces a broken component on an aircraft that is in service.
- CDL
- See configuration deviation list.
- check
- A periodic inspection of an aircraft after a specified amount of time in service.
- close time
- The time that is required to close an access item.
- compliance
- The state of being in accordance with regulated standards.
- configuration
- A modification of an existing model, such as a new derivative of an existing engine.
- configuration deviation list (CDL)
- A list of the non-structural external parts that can be missing from an aircraft without affecting airworthiness although a limitation might be associated with the CDL record.
- consumable part
- A non-rotable inventory item that can be added to build positions in a model or to an aircraft or piece of equipment.
- corrective action
- The steps that are taken to resolve a discrepancy and return an aircraft to service.
D
- discrepancy record
- A record that tracks inconsistencies that affect the overall status of an aircraft.
E
- effectivity
- An indication that a specified record applies to an aircraft component, for example, the effectivity of a service bulletin might be for all A320 aircraft.
- engineering assessment order
- A type of record that is used to request and complete an assessment of a technical publication to determine whether it is applicable to an aircraft or piece of equipment and, if the technical publication is applicable, to also determine how the aircraft or piece of equipment can comply with the technical publication.
- engineering order
- A meter-based, date-based, or maintenance-event-based record that is used to plan and manage maintenance on an aircraft or piece of equipment.
- exchange order
- A record that tracks the exchange of a piece of equipment.
F
- fatigue rating
- A value that is based on a formula that is applied to calculate stress and load on physical materials.
- fixed-frequency maintenance (PIP)
- See progressive inspection program.
- flight log book
- A collection of flight data records that report aviation quality and maintenance for a specific aircraft.
- flight log book setup record
- A record that configures the information that is shown in the flight log book and collects information that is required for a specific aircraft and regulations.
- frequency iteration
- Repeated intervals of scheduled tasks or maintenance.
H
- HIL
- See hold item list.
- hold item list (HIL)
- A list of specific work orders that are deferred because a required part, piece of equipment, or system is missing or inoperable although a limitation might be associated with the HIL record.
I
- interval
- The rate, or frequency, at which a maintenance event recurs. See also threshold.
J
- job card
- A detailed description of a maintenance task that is performed for a work order.
L
- lease order
- A record that tracks a piece of equipment that is leased, for a specified duration of time and cost, which is typically described in a contract.
- lot
- See batch.
M
- maintenance significant item (MSI)
- An item whose failure might have serious consequences for the safety and operation of the aircraft.
- master task card
- A record that is associated with a configuration-managed part and is used to describe a maintenance task, including the interval at which it occurs, and is also used to create task cards for specific aircraft and components.
- MEL
- See minimum equipment list.
- minimum equipment list (MEL)
- A list of the systems and pieces of equipment that can be inoperable on an aircraft without affecting the airworthiness although a limitation might be associated with the MEL record.
- mod
- See modification.
- model
- The allowable configuration of an aircraft or piece of equipment that is used to validate the aircraft or piece of equipment.
- modification (mod)
- A change to the fit, form, or function of an aircraft or piece of equipment that is a critical element to manage engineering and maintenance tasks that are related to the aircraft throughout its service life.
- MSI
- See maintenance significant item.
N
- national requirement
- A maintenance task that is required by a national airworthiness authority. See also vendor requirement.
- new aircraft assembly
- A virtual aircraft that is created to represent a corresponding model that is separate from operational aircraft until it is made active.
O
- off-blocks
- The time that the aircraft departed, or pushed back, from its parking position in the departure location.
- on-blocks
- Pertaining to the time that the aircraft arrived at its parking position in the destination location.
- open time
- The time that is required to open an access item.
- operation
- A maintenance activity that is defined to complete a task, which might consist of multiple operations.
- organization
- A record that identifies a unique legal entity. The data set for an organization includes information that companies or other distinct legal entities might share, such as calendars, vendors, and financial information. An organization can contain one or more sites. See also site.
P
- part set
- A group of parts, which are stocked in storerooms, that can be shared by organizations that are assigned to use the set.
- phase
- A period of time that is used to plan, schedule, and perform maintenance tasks.
- PIP
- PO
- See purchase order.
- progressive inspection program (PIP)
- A maintenance program that is based on a fixed schedule and regulatory requirement.
- purchase order (PO)
- An authorized order to an external vendor or internal supplier.
R
- repair order
- A record that tracks the repair of a piece of equipment.
- rotable
- Equipment that is tracked in inventory and can be repeatedly maintained, repaired, or restored to a working and serviceable condition.
S
- sampling program
- A reliability program that requires a selected sample of aircraft, including the oldest and youngest aircraft in the fleet, to have maintenance tasks take place at a different threshold and frequency interval than the rest of the fleet.
- scope of work (SOW)
- A document or other mechanism that describes the agreed terms and deliverables, such as the aircraft or equipment and work activities that are due on specific dates, for a customer's service request.
- service level agreement (SLA)
- A contract between a customer and a service provider that specifies the expectations for the level of service with respect to availability, performance, and other measurable objectives.
- site
- A work location, such as a plant or facility. See also organization.
- SLA
- See service level agreement.
- SLA breach
- A violation of a commitment that is defined in a service level agreement (SLA).
- slot
- A location that represents a maintenance area, such as an aircraft hangar, and a period of time in which maintenance activities are performed.
- soft task
- A task that can be completed during the next maintenance opportunity.
- SOW
- See scope of work.
- SSI
- See structural significant item.
- statement of work
- See scope of work.
- structural damage and repair record
- A record that is used to describe, review, and track all damage that occurs in the structure of an aircraft or a piece of equipment.
- structural significant item (SSI)
- Any detail, element, or assembly that contributes to carrying flight, ground, pressure, or control loads, and whose structural integrity is necessary for aircraft safety, for example, landing gear
- subassembly
- An assembled unit that is incorporated with other units into a complete assembly.
T
- task
- See operation.
- task card
- A record that specifies maintenance tasks and generates work orders when the alert point of the task card is met.
- technical publication
- A record that maintains information that is related to an externally published directive or bulletin, such as an airworthiness directive or a customer service notification. Technical records are used in highly regulated industries to ensure that all regulations are properly implemented.
- threshold
- A specified limit that defines when a maintenance task must be performed. See also interval.
- tolerance
- A specified time period before or after a deadline during which tasks must be completed.
V
- variant configuration
- A high-level specification that is used by the manufacturer to describe the design and functional capabilities of an aircraft and that can be divided into subvariants to describe additional differences in tracked positions, allowable part numbers, and maintenance policy.
- variation
- See configuration.
- vendor requirement
- A maintenance task that is recommended by the vendor or by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the aircraft or piece of equipment. See also national requirement.
W
- warranty
- Terms of a contract that outline standards for potential claims for an aircraft or piece of equipment.
- work card
- The detailed description of the maintenance task that is completed for a specific element of work and is associated with a work order.
