What's new

Learn more about what's new and changed in IBM webMethods Managed File Transfer.

April 2026

Automatic file purging for default virtual folder
You can now configure automatic file purging for the default virtual folder to reduce storage costs and simplify maintenance. Administrators can define purging rules to automatically remove outdated files at regular intervals. For more information, see Managing virtual folders.
API enhancements
Managed File Transfer now provides APIs for automating tasks, triggering scheduled actions, and extracting logs for third-party platform integration. The APIs currently support MCSP authorization, enabling you to execute scheduled actions and view execution logs programmatically. For more information, see Administration APIs.
SSH and PGP key pair generation
The new key pair generation feature allows administrators to generate SSH and PGP key pairs directly within the MFT platform. This streamlines the certificate management workflow, reduces complexity, and ensures consistent key generation practices. Generated key pairs are automatically stored securely with user-defined aliases, ready for immediate use across any configuration that requires them. For more information, see Certificates.
webClient version 1.0 deprecation
Support for IBM webMethods Managed File Transfer webClient version 1.0 is deprecated. Migrate to webClient version 2.0 to ensure continued compatibility and support.

December 2025

Preserve folder structure option added
You can now preserve the original folder structure when copying or moving files. When you select the Preserve folder structure option, the source folder hierarchy is fully replicated at the destination, and the Create directory option is enabled automatically. If this option is not selected, all files are placed directly in the destination folder, overwriting files with the same name. This enhancement also ensures that files extracted by a preceding Unzip task retain their folder structure.
Error messages documented
The error codes, messages, explanations, and recommended actions that are identified for the AI module and sent to End-to-end monitoring are now documented. This comprehensive error reference provides detailed information and resolution steps to help you quickly identify and troubleshoot issues.

October 2025

Enhanced action permissions
The UI now lets administrators assign Action permissions to Users, Roles, or Groups, enabling more granular control. Admins can grant specific permissions such as view, add, update, or delete, depending on the use case. The permission behavior applies only to Actions. It does not apply to Users, Virtual folders, or Certificates.
  • If you grant Add permission, the system automatically enables the Update permission. This allows users to add new items and edit them.
  • You can also grant Update permission without granting the Add permission. This allows users to edit existing items but not add new ones.
New version of webClient
A new version of Managed File Transfer webClient is now available. To access it, log in to your existing webClient account and click Try new theme on the page.
OIDC with AWS STS for S3 assumed role access
You can now use OIDC (OpenID Connect) with AWS STS (Security Token Service) as an authentication method for accessing Amazon S3 using assumed roles.
SSO support for HTTPS
Managed File Transfer now supports single sign-on (SSO) for HTTPS ports.
End-to-end monitoring integration with Managed File Transfer
File upload and download transactions across protocols such as FTP, SFTP, and webClient can now be traced in End-to-end monitoring. Traceability is also available for file operations triggered by Schedule or Post-processing actions.
