Using Existing Contract to Create New Contracts

You can use an existing authored or filed contract as a contract template to create a new contract.

About this task

When you use a contract to create a new one, the following template properties are automatically copied.

  • Class
  • Standard and latest revisions
  • Term placeholders
  • Folders
  • Events
  • Approvals
  • Line definitions
  • Line clauses
  • Visibility settings

You become the new contract’s internal contact. You can select certain unique properties of the original contract to copy to the new one.

You cannot create a new contract from existing quotes, amendments, or received contracts.

Procedure

To use an existing contract to create a new one, complete the following steps:

  1. Open a contract in the Contract Editor.
  2. Click the Save as Contract icon.
  3. Specify a name for the new contract.
  4. Select the following properties of the original contract that you want to copy to the new contract.
    • External party information from the Parties tab.
    • Term values
    • Contract lines from the Lines tab.
    • Attachments from the Attachments tab.
    • Custom properties from the Header tab.
    • User-defined relationships from the Relationships tab.
    • Contract summary from the Summary tab.

When you copy the term values, the term placeholders are copied. However, the term relationships are not copied. You must manually create the relationships. If you do not copy the summary, the summary from the contract template is copied.

  5. Click OK.

Results

The new contract is opened in a new instance of the Contract Editor. The modification and replacement status of the clauses is copied to the new contract. If the language of the original contract was modified from standard language, the new contract is created with a revision history of the contract and changed clauses already in place.
