Term Definitions

Term definitions work like variables that you can insert within clause templates, contract templates, clause, or contracts. When inserted into a clause or contract template, the resulting clause or contract instance contains a term placeholder into which users can enter or select from a list of values, such as dates, names, numbers, or other standard phrases or terms and conditions.

Definition

A term definition is a placeholder with a set of properties that determines the behavior and possible values of a term.

Features of term definitions

Term definitions have the following features.

  • Each user-defined term definition continues to affect behavior within all clauses and contracts in which its placeholder applies.
  • Certain properties, when changed in Administration, reflect in all current term placeholder instances that originated from that term definition. Future instances are similarly affected.
Note: With permission, you can apply a policy to a user-defined term within a contract template that references it. Specifically, you might require that the term placeholders in the future contract have a value before presentation or execution by setting a “mandatory” property in the contract template.
