Contract Organizations

Contract organizations are internal organizations that may or may not be assigned to contracts.

Organization level restrictions

Users that belong to an internal organization can have access to specific contracts and clauses based on the organization-restricted permissions that are given to them. The organization-restricted permissions are provided through the contract or clause template, and term definitions. These restrictions determine who can edit the object, select it as a search criteria, or for creating a new instance.

Contract organizations

The following table lists the organizations that a contract can have.

Table 1. Contract organizations
Organization Description
Internal party

Party that is legally bound by the contract.

Contracting organization

Party that manages the collaboration and negotiation processes. A contracting organization is automatically set as the contract creator's organization when the contract is created.

When the primary internal contact is changed, the organization changes to the internal contact's organization. A contracting organization cannot be changed manually.

Owning organization

Organization of the business owner of the contract. By default, this is the contract creator's organization, but can be changed to an internal user's organization. The owning organization determines the following settings:

  • Format template applied to the language: When a contract is created, the contract template of the owning organization is applied to the contract. This template cannot be changed in an existing contract even when the owning organization is changed. However, the format for a contract can be changed by editing it in Microsoft Word.
  • Quote generation settings: The rules for assigning newly generated quotes to users and organizations are configured according to the owner organization.
  • Notification settings: The notification template and rules for a contract are processed based on the owning organization.
  • Negotiation settings: The presentation and execution methods, and the behavior of checked-out and email-negotiable documents are determined by the owning organization of the contract.
Affiliated organizations

Organizations that have a business interest in a contract. These are optional.
