Preparing to install IBM Business Automation Application Engine (App Engine)

Before you deploy IBM Business Automation Application Engine (App Engine), you must prepare your environment. These procedures include setting up databases and security as well as configuring App Engine with toolkit contributions.

Before you begin

You must install User Management Service (UMS) before you install App Engine.

As part of the deployment process, you supply numerous values for the configuration parameters that define your environment. These prerequisite steps provide details that help you collect your input for configuration and deployment.

For a full list and more information about the parameters that you provide for the configuration, see App Engine configuration parameters.

About this task

The following diagram shows App Engine running in a production environment. The browser communicates with IBM Business Automation Navigator, which in turn communicates with App Engine. The components register themselves through IBM Resource Registry and authenticate through UMS, allowing single sign-on. App Engine resolves the endpoints of the components from Resource Registry and then communicates with the components directly.
