What is Geo targeting?

Use geo targeting to create geographic targeting queries for your emails. With geo targeting, the Acoustic Campaign Services team imports custom zip code relational tables into your organizations. These custom zip codes are immediately available for use.

You can use the following geographical data.

  • A list of US zip codes based on a pre-defined list of 200 US city/zip codes in the application
  • A single US zip code and radius
  • A list of postal codes and radius.

The following countries are supported.

  • US - 5 digit zip code
  • Germany - Full postal code
  • United Kingdom - First 3 characters of postal code
  • Canada - First 3 characters of postal code

The relational tables for Germany, United Kingdom, and Canada use kilometers for the radius. All of the user interface fields and relational table fields use US terminology.

The Acoustic Campaign Provisioning team can create a default relational table with a standard list of U.S. zip codes. You can also provide your own list of zip codes and the radius that should be applied around them. To get started with geo targeting, contact Client Support

If you do not have prior experience with Acoustic Campaign relational tables, you should review the Acoustic Campaign relational tables training course available from the Customer Support Portal.

After the table is imported into your org(s), the standard or custom zip code relational table is accessible from the Relational Tables tab on the View Data page.

The table that is loaded into Acoustic Campaign contains five columns of data. The From Zip Code column represents the zip code you are targeting, (so if you selected the custom option, that column will be limited to only that set). The To Zip Code column is the zip code that joins to your database to import the correct contacts.

When to use geo targeting

Use geo targeting is when targeting contacts that are within certain proximity of a specific outlet, venue or location.

  • In retail that could be contacts that are within 20 miles of a certain store.
  • In the hospitality industry that might be contacts that are within driving distance of a particular resort.
  • In transportation you might want to target contacts that are within 100 miles of an airport.
