Configuring the Search widget

Use the Search widget to search for items in the service registry. You enter a search term and limit the search to certain types of item.

The Search widget always works in conjunction with another widget; it does not display search results itself. For example, you can specify items to search for in the Search widget and the results are displayed in the Collection widget.

You customize the behavior of the Search widget from the Display Settings window. You must first enter edit mode by completing the following steps:
  1. Click anywhere on the tab for the page containing the Search widget that you want to edit. An options menu is displayed.
  2. Select Edit Page. You are now in editing mode. When you have completed your changes, click Finish.

Open the Display Settings window by clicking the down arrow icon, entitled Menu, in the widget title bar and selecting Edit settings from the menu. If the title bar is not visible, hover over the upper right of the Search widget and click the Show title bar control when it becomes visible.

The window contains the following settings:
Enable enhanced search
Select this option to specify that the Search widget uses the enhanced text search feature. If enhanced search is enabled, both metadata and content are searched.
Note:
  • You can select this option only if Text Search is enabled in the WSRR Text Search configuration. For more information, see Text Search.
  • The search types filter controls what type of object is found when using enhanced search. When using enhanced search to find by bsrURI, the object identified by the bsrURI must be of the type selected in the search types filter; otherwise, it will not show in the results.
Enable Auto-suggest
If this check box is selected, you are presented with a list of matching suggestions when you enter text into the Search text box in the Search widget.
Submit delay (milliseconds)
The delay, in milliseconds, between when you type a fresh character in the quick search field and when the request is submitted to build the list of matching suggestions. An appropriate value for this option prevents continuous and rapid refreshing of the matching suggestions list during typing.
Search Filter Types and Display Order
Use the Default filter list to specify the type of object displayed by default in the Search widget types list.

The table specifies the types present in the Search widget types list, and the order in which they appear. Clear the Visible check box for an item if you do not want it to appear in the list and be available for searching.

If the Show only visible types check box is selected, then only the items with the Visible check box selected are displayed in the list that follows. The table specifies the types present in the Search widget types list, and the order in which they appear.
Tip: There are many types in the list, so it is best practice to:
  • Select those types that will be visible by use of the check boxes.
  • Select the Show only visible types check box.
  • Decide on the order the types will appear in the list by using the up and down arrow keys or by dragging and dropping the types.
Select All
Click this link to select all types in the list.
Deselect All
Click this link to clear all types that are currently selected.
Note: If required, you can disable wildcard searching for the search widget as described in Setting WILDCARD_ONLY_SEARCH to off.
