Downloading assets and artifacts

Download an asset to view, evaluate, or work with the artifacts for that asset.

Your role must have the appropriate permission to download assets.

Important: Some web browsers cannot download files that are larger than 2 GB. For more information about limitations on downloading large files in Internet Explorer, see Microsoft™ Support article #298618.

IBM® Rational® Asset Manager encodes .zip files with UTF-8 character encoding. To avoid corrupting data, use an extraction utility that supports UTF-8 encoding.

When you download an asset, you save it on your local system so that you can modify or reuse the contents of the asset. This action yields the same results at importing an asset in the Eclipse client.

  • To download a .zip file that contains all of the artifacts of an asset, on the General Details page of that asset, click Download this Asset.
The .zip file contains these artifacts:
    • The asset attachments, including images.
    • A manifest.rmd file, which is an XML text file that contains information about the asset.
    • The translations for the artifacts, which are located in the com.ibm.ram.data/nl folder.

Alternately, you can choose to download assets with the download manager to improve performance for downloading large files. Click the arrow in the Download this Asset box to view and then select Use download manager. A Java™ applet opens, and the asset is downloaded to a default directory (user.home). To change the location, you can Browse and change it, and download the asset again or download other assets to the new location.

You can download individual asset from the search result list in the Search For Assets page. On this page, click the Download this Asset icon adjacent to an asset, under the Name column, to download and save an asset.

You can download asset from the Search for Assets page
  • To download a specific artifact of an asset without downloading the entire asset:
    1. From the General Details page of the asset, click Content.
    2. Locate the artifact to download.
You can search for an artifact by entering a keyword in the Artifact search field.
    3. Click the name of the artifact to download, and save the file on your local system. To download specific artifacts with the download manager, click the Add artifact to download manager icon in the Actions column.
