Integrating with CVS

If you want to integrate IBM® Rational® Asset Manager with CVS, you must use the Eclipse client. If artifacts of an asset exist in CVS, Rational Asset Manager recognizes that and records the information. This is helpful when trying to reuse and develop the asset further.

The application recognizes when artifacts are checked into CVS and reports CVS information as the assets are submitted to Rational Asset Manager. The properties view lists the CVS properties. When you submit an asset all of this information is transferred and stored on the Rational Asset Manager server.

Use the following instructions to help you integrate Rational Asset Manager and CVS.

  • To create a new asset from a CVS project that is in your workspace to the Rational Asset Manager repository, right-click the asset and select New > Asset. For more information, see Creating Assets. When you submit the asset to the repository, you will prompted to add CVS information to the asset. See Submitting assets to the repository.
  • To add a CVS project that is in your workspace to an asset, see Attaching artifacts to assets. When you submit the asset to the repository, you will prompted to add CVS information to the asset. See Submitting assets to the repository.
  • If you have a new project and you want to submit it both CVS and to the Rational Asset Manager repository, share the project on CVS first. For more information, see Sharing a project with CVS.
  • If an asset has artifacts that are associated with CVS, when you import the asset into your Eclipse workspace, you will be prompted to download the files from CVS instead of from Rational Asset Manager. You can select specific branches or create a new development branch. For more information, see Importing assets.
