Using lifecycle queries

If an application has been configured to communicate with one or more other applications, lifecycle queries are available. These queries generate results based on relationships that exist between artifacts in different applications.

About this task

For example, if you have configured a change and configuration management application to communicate with a Engineering Test Management application or a requirements management application, or even a change and configuration management application on a different server, the Lifecycle Queries folder contains queries such as following:
Defects affecting requirements
Open defects that affect requirements
Defects affecting tests (current iteration)
Open all work items that have an affect link to a test result
Defects blocking tests
Open work items that have a blocking link to a test execution
Defects with Test Cases ready for testing
Work items ready for testing that are associated with tests
Open Requirement Change Requests
Open change requests that track a requirement
Plan items affected by defects
Plan items that are affected by at least one defect
Plan items implementing requirements
Open work items implementing requirements
Plan items ready for testing/defects ready for testing
Open work items that are in the ready for testing state with associated tests
Plan items tested successfully
Open work items that have a test link to a test case whose last test execution has succeeded
Plan items tested successfully
Open work items in the current iteration that have a test link to a test case whose last test execution has succeeded
Plan items with failing tests
Open work items that have a test link to a test case whose last test execution has failed
Plan items with no requirement
Plan Items not associated with a Requirement
Plan items with no test case
Plan items without any associated test
Plan items with no test case (current iteration)
Plan items in the current iteration without any associated test
Plan items with tests not run
Open work items associated with tests that have not been executed

Procedure

To use a predefined lifecycle query:

  1. Click Work Items in the main menu and click Shared Queries.
  2. In the Shared Queries list, open the Lifecycle Queries section.
  3. Click a query to run it.
    The results appear in the results pane on the right.
  4. To see the details of a work item, click it in the results pane. The work item opens in the work items editor.
