Oracle databases

The following Oracle databases configuration settings should be considered prior to installing the CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases:

Database partition changes
CDC Replication does not support moving database partition changes except as documented for specific environments such as DDL replication.
Supplemental logging
Oracle supplemental logging simply means that all columns or selected columns are specified for extra logging. CDC Replication requires supplemental logging on the source database at both the database level and table level.
ARCHIVELOG mode
CDC Replication requires uninterrupted access to Oracle redo logs. Therefore, you must enable the archiving of Oracle redo logs.
Log parallelism
The CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases supports the replication of Oracle databases with log parallelism starting from Oracle 10g (release 10.1.0.4 or later).
Log shipping
You can configure the CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases to ship logs using Data Guard.
Log space for latency
The CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases requires sufficient disk space for log files accumulated for a latent subscription, such as a subscription set for continuous mirroring.
Automatic Storage Management (ASM)
If you are using ASM to manage your Oracle redo log files, the CDC Replication configuration tool requires a user name and password for the ASM instance. The ASM user must have SYSDBA privilege to log in to ASM.
Remote log reading
You can configure the CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases for environments where a source deployment of the CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases does not have direct access to the Oracle online redo log files and archived log files because the product is installed on a different machine from your source database.
Remote target apply
You can deploy your target installation of CDC Replication on a system that is remote from your target database.
Tablespace for the CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases metadata
You need to ensure that the tablespace requirements for CDC Replication metadata are satisfied.
Undo tablespace for transaction rollbacks
The CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases deployed as a target requires a sufficient amount of Oracle undo tablespace for transaction rollbacks.
Encrypted tablespaces
The CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases supports replication for tables that use encrypted table spaces. It supports both column encryption and table space encryption.
Read-only database connections
The CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases supports read-only database connections to your Oracle database.
Read-only tables
The CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases provides limited replication support on read-only tables.
Compressed tables
In previous versions of the CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases, partial support for tables with compressed data could be achieved with the use of table partitioning. CDC Replication now supports replication of tables with compressed data. This means that you can map compressed tables in Management Console.
Partitioned tables
The CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases supports partitioned tables.
Interval partitions
The replication of tables with interval partitions is supported by the CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases in IBM® Data Replication Version 11.4.0.0-5033 and later.
Clustered tables
CDC Replication does not support Oracle clustered tables.
Disk quota for capture components
CDC Replication uses specific components to capture changes from the database log. These components accumulate uncommitted transactions and data changes in memory.
Bulk load refresh
CDC Replication can be enabled to use a bulk load refresh when applying data to the target database.
Oracle listener
CDC Replication requires the Oracle listener to connect to the database. You must start the Oracle listener before installing CDC Replication.
RESETLOG operation
Sometimes you must execute a RESETLOG operation on a database, for example after an Oracle abort shutdown. This operation creates a new incarnation of the database.
Recovering the CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases after a database failover operation
CDC Replication requires a specific procedure to recover from an Oracle database failover operation.
