PowerPrompts Port Conflict When Multiple Versions of Impromptu Web Reports are Installed and Running

Problems occur when multiple versions of IBM® Cognos® Impromptu Web Reports including PowerPrompts are installed on the same computer and configured for co-existence as described in the Solution Installation Guide.

The following problems may occur:

  • When multiple versions of Impromptu Web Reports are installed and configured with the same PowerPrompts port number.

    In this case, both 7.4 and 7.5 services will start, however errors may occur when either installation is used.

  • When multiple versions of Impromptu Web Reports are installed and configured with different PowerPrompts port numbers.

    In this case PowerPrompts will work correctly with whichever installation is started first and will not work with the other installation.

It is not possible to run PowerPrompts versions 7.4 and 7.5 on the same computer at the same time. It is possible, however, to have both configured on the same computer so long as only one version of Impromptu Web Reports is running at a time.

Configure the 7.4 and 7.5 environments to run PowerPrompts on different ports. These ports can be found at tools.PowerPrompts.Data Access.port in Configuration Manager.

Run only one version of Impromptu Web Reports services at a time.
