Migrating VMware compute nodes

In IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack 4.2, the VMware vCenter servers are managed by IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack self-service portal as VMware Clouds. In IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack 4.3, the vCenter servers are managed by OpenStack as VMware regions. The migration of vCenter server management from IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack version 4.2 to version 4.3 is the data migration from self-service portal to the OpenStack VMware region.

About this task

Before you start the migration, understand the results of migrating vCenter server management from IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack 4.2 to IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack 4.3:
  • In IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack 4.3, each vCenter server is managed in one individual OpenStack VMware region.
  • If IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack 4.2 self-service portal uses local authentication, the password of the user account is not migrated. Existing users of IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack 4.2 are unable to log on to OpenStack with the old password. The administrator must reset passwords for the existing users.
Note: If IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack 4.2 self-service portal uses LDAP authentication, this issue does not apply.
  • Any pending approvals in IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack 4.2 self-service portal are not migrated. Complete any pending approvals before you start the migration process.
  • For more information about other functions that are supported by the OpenStack VMware region, see https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/HypervisorSupportMatrix.
