Installing Tivoli Storage Manager by using the installation wizard

You can install or update Tivoli® Storage Manager by using the IBM® Installation Manager graphical wizard.

Before you begin

Ensure that you review the following important information about installing the server:

If the following RPM files are not installed on the computer, install them. For instructions, see Installing RPM files for the graphical wizard.

Verify that the operating system is set to the language that you require. By default, the language of the operating system is the language of the installation wizard.
The user ID that you are using during installation must be a user with local Administrator authority.
Ensure that the LD_LIBRARY_PATH_64 environment variable is not set.

On test servers only: Use the following command to bypass prerequisite checks such as the operating system and the required memory. Do not issue this command on a production server.

./install.sh -g -vmargs "-DBYPASS_TSM_REQ_CHECKS=true"

 install.bat -g -vmargs "-DBYPASS_TSM_REQ_CHECKS=true"

Procedure

Choose whether to install from a downloaded package file, or from the DVD, and complete the following steps to begin the installation:

Option	Description
Installing from a downloaded package file:	Change to the directory where you downloaded the package file. Start the graphical interface installation wizard by issuing the following command: `./install.sh` `install.bat`
Installing from DVD media:	Insert the DVD into the DVD drive. Tip: Ensure that the installation files are visible on the DVD drive. Start the graphical interface installation wizard by issuing the following command: `./install.sh` `install.bat` Or, in the directory where the installation files were extracted, double-click the install.bat file.

What to do next

If errors occur during the installation process, these errors are recorded in log files that are stored in the IBM Installation Manager logs directory.
You can view installation log files by clicking File > View Log from the Installation Manager tool. To collect these log files, click Help > Export Data for Problem Analysis from the Installation Manager tool.

If a native device driver is available on Windows for the tape drives or medium changers that you plan to use, use the native device driver. If a native device driver is not available on Windows for the tape drives or medium changers that you plan to use, install the Tivoli Storage Manager device driver by issuing the dpinst.exe /a command. The dpinst.exe file is in the device driver directory. The default directory is C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\device\drivers.
