Masking rules

zDMF supports data set masking for the SOURCE DSN and EXCLUDE DSN.

The following table explains the masking rules.

Table 1. zDMF masking rules
Character Meaning
* (single asterisk) Takes the place of one qualifier or indicates that you are specifying one part of a qualifier.
** (double asterisk) Used with other qualifiers, denotes one of the following:
  • the non-existence of leading, trailing and middle qualifiers,
  • they play no role in the selection.
% (percentage) Indicates a single-character mask

The SOURCE DSN and EXCLUDE DSN masks allow partial index level masking. For example, IBM®.DATA*.ABC** is valid for SOURCE DSN or EXCLUDE DSN.

Note: The SOURCE DSN parameter does not allow any masking in the first data set qualifier unless the SOURCE VOLUME parameter is specified.
