Autocompletion

As you type a command and specify one of the following parameters, the AO Facility assists you by displaying a list of possible values:
-ou
Organizational unit.
-ct
Configuration object type.
-co
Configuration object.
-cos
Configuration object set.
-attr
Attribute.
-user
User.
-ro
Role.
-rg
Role group.
For all other parameters, the last value you entered is recorded and presented in the list.

The list is displayed as soon as you type the blank that follows the parameter name. If both the previously entered value and a list of possible values are available, the previously entered value is at the top of the list and is separated from the other values by a horizontal line.

You can select a value from a list in either of the following ways:
  • Use the mouse.
  • Use the up and down arrow keys to mark a value, then press Enter to select the marked value.

As you continue typing, the values in the drop-down list are automatically reduced so that only matching values are displayed. You can specify any number of asterisk (*) characters as wildcards.

To open the list for a specific value again after further editing the command or moving the focus, place the cursor anywhere within the value and press the down arrow key.

Legend:
 1
The most recently entered value for the -ct parameter is the topmost item in the list, and that value is not included in the alphanumerically sorted portion of the list.
 2
The list of available CTs is reduced according to the characters that were already typed for the parameter value.

The drop-down list can display at most 15 values. To view additional values, select More choices from the list. Select Previous choices to return to the previously displayed list.

If, for your input, both command history and autocompletion (see Command history) are available, the command history is displayed. Toggle between the two lists by pressing Ctrl+Space, as shown in Figure 2.

Note: On Windows systems with Chinese (Simplified) or Chinese (Traditional) installed, the key shortcut Ctrl+Space may cause a language switch. On such systems press another modifier key like Alt or Shift in addition to Ctrl+Space to toggle between the command history and the autocompletion list.
