View the progress of background tasks in the page banner. For example, when you create a ticket, you can see that task in the page banner.
Task framework in the modern UI of IBM Storage Insights
The task framework in the modern UI of IBM Storage Insights is designed to enhance the user interaction and streamline tasks. When you perform an action in the IBM Storage Insights, a task is generated to keep you informed.
How to navigate:
Click the task icon located towards the top right in the top menu bar to open the task panel.
- Task icon: A task icon is prominently displayed towards the upper-right in the main menu bar. This icon serves as a visual cue for you, indicating the presence of new tasks.
- Visual task: When new tasks accumulate, a red dot appears on the task icon, alerting you to check for updates.
- Task notification: You are notified through a toast notification when a task is generated by your action and the notification disappears after few seconds.
- Task panel access: Clicking the task icon opens a dedicated task panel that includes three tabs: Running, Failed, and Completed. Each tab displays relevant tasks along with their respective counts.
- Detailed task information: Each task displays the following details:
- Timeline: The exact time when the task was generated.
- Title: A brief title that summarizes the task.
- Detail message: More context or information that is related to the task.
- Action needed tag: When action is required from you, an Action needed tag is added below the timeline.
- Error to fix tag: This tag is added whenever there is an error with the ongoing task.
- Read more option: If a message is lengthy, a Read more option is available to expand and view full details.
- Contextual actions: Actions like Retry for failed tasks, Take action for partition migration, View details or other actions are displayed based on the requirement.
- Task dismissal options: Tasks in the Failed and Completed tabs can be closed from the task panel. However, running tasks cannot be closed. You can close individual tasks by clicking the close icon next to each one
- Task generation actions: The following actions generates the tasks that are displayed in
the task panel:
- Adding storage system and retrying on failure of storage system addition
- Adding host and retrying on failure of host addition
- Scheduling and restarting data collection
- Setting data collection logs
- Testing and modifying connections
- Capacity planning overview
- Storage partition migration
The task framework in the modern UI of IBM Storage Insights makes it easier to stay on top of your storage environment. Tasks are prominent, which helps you to stay informed without interrupting your workflow. The intuitive design and improved organization help you find important information quickly, allowing for timely responses to any critical events.
Tracking tasks in the classic UI of IBM Storage Insights
Running tasks- Click the running tasks icon to view a list of tasks that are running. You can see when the task
started. When the task completes, it is no longer displayed in the list of running tasks.
Messages about service and maintenance updates for your instance of IBM Storage Insights are also listed.
Failed tasks- Click the failed tasks icon to view a list of tasks that failed, the reason for the failures,
and when the tasks failed. You can also complete the following actions:
- Retry the task. When you retry a task, the task is added to the list of running tasks.
- Clear the task from the list.
- Create or update tickets.
- All device management actions, such as add storage systems, stop and restart data collection, modify credentials, and test the connection to a device.
- Add switches.
