Managing master data by using IBM Master Data Management
Use the IBM Master Data Management service on IBM Cloud Pak for Data to consolidate data from the disparate sources that fuel your business and establish a single, trusted, 360-degree view of your customers.
IBM Master Data Management (formerly IBM Match 360) helps you to resolve data records across different sources to give you a clearer view of each customer. Load record data from systems across your enterprise into IBM Master Data Management and run matching algorithms to consolidate that data by creating trusted master data entities. After you match your data, IBM Master Data Management shows statistics and graphs to help business users to analyze and explore your master data.

Service The IBM Master Data Management service is not available by default. An administrator must install the service. To determine whether the service is installed, open the Services catalog. If the service is installed and ready to use, the IBM Master Data Management tile in the catalog shows Ready to use.

The IBM Master Data Management service includes two connected and complementary user experiences: master data configuration and master data workspace.

Prerequisites
To use the full capabilities of IBM Master Data Management, you must:
- Have the IBM Knowledge Catalog service
- Associate a catalog with your IBM Master Data Management service instance
Without IBM Knowledge Catalog, key IBM Master Data Management capabilities such as profiling, automapping, data quality workflows, and data governance will not work. Other features of the IBM Master Data Management service will function normally.
Before you can match data using IBM Master Data Management, you need to create a project.
Accessing the service
Before attempting to access the service, ensure that you have an appropriate service instance role. For details, see Giving users access to IBM Master Data Management.
There is more than one way to access the IBM Master Data Management service:
- From the Cloud Pak for Data home page navigation menu, select Data > Master data.
- From the Your services card on the home page, click the service name associated with your IBM Master Data Management service instance.
You can also connect to and work with your master data by using the IBM Master Data Management REST APIs. For more information, see the API reference documentation in the IBM Cloud API and SDK reference library.
Navigating the service
After starting IBM Master Data Management, you begin on the Master data home page. The home page provides you with key information at a glance. Explore the graphs, statistics, asset details, and quick links on the home page. Open details of your assets in the system by clicking the link on the My assets card, or use one of the provided quick links to jump to another specific IBM Master Data Management function.
After exploring the home page, use the Master data navigation menu to access all of the core IBM Master Data Management capabilities and configuration options.
