Enabling email notifications
You can configure a connection to your SMTP server so that Cloud Pak for Data can send email to users.
Before you begin
To complete this task, you must have one of the following permissions:
- Administer platform
- Manage configurations
In addition, you must have an email address associated with your user ID. You can check whether there is an email address associated with your account from your profile. If you do not have an email address associated with your user ID, see Managing access to the platform.
About this task
Cloud Pak for Data sends two types of emails:
- Alerting emails
- You can have Cloud Pak for Data send notifications to
specific users when the monitoring and alerting framework issues an alert.

- Notification emails
- Common core services If the IBM Cloud Pak for Data common core services are installed, users can choose whether they receive emails about the projects or deployment spaces that they are members of.
Procedure
To enable Cloud Pak for Data to send email:
Results
- If you specified a From account when you configured the connection to your SMTP server, notifications are sent from the account specified in the From account field.
- If you did not specify a From account when you configured a connection to your SMTP server, notifications are sent from the mailer daemon.
