Storage volume connection

To access your data in a storage volume, create a connection asset for it. Use the Storage volume connection to access data from a volume on an NFS server or a persistent volume claim (PVC).

If you have not enabled access to a volume yet and you have the Create service instances permission in Cloud Pak for Data, you can enable access to a volume here.

Set up and manage volumes

If you're enabling access to a new volume, click New volume. Setting up a storage volume requires the Create service instances permission and is typically done by the cluster administrator. For instructions, see Managing storage volumes.

Credentials

Select your platform login credentials.

Choose the method for creating a connection based on where you are in the platform

In a project Click Add to project > Connection. See Adding a connection to a project.

In a catalog Click Add to catalog > Connection. See Adding a connection asset to a catalog.

In a deployment space Click Add to space > Connection. See Adding connections to a deployment space.

In the Platform assets catalog Click New connection. See Adding platform connections.

Where you can use this connection

You can use the Storage volume connection in the following workspaces and tools:

Analytics projects

• Data Refinery (Watson Studio or Watson Knowledge Catalog)
• Notebooks (Watson Studio). When you open the notebook, the storage volume is mounted to the path specified at the time the storage volume is created. If you add a new connection to a storage volume after you opened the notebook, you must restart the notebook runtime environment to mount the new volume. You can use the insert-to-code function to get the connection credentials and load the data into a data structure. See Load data from data source connections.
• RStudio (Watson Studio). When you start the RStudio IDE, the storage volume is mounted to the path specified at the time the storage volume is created, provided you have the required permissions to access the storage volume. If you add a new connection to a storage volume after you started RStudio, you must restart the RStudio runtime environment to mount the new volume.
• R Shiny applications (Watson Studio). Storage volume can also be mounted to deployed R Shiny applications. For more information about this feature, see Connecting your R Shiny application to a persistent storage volume.
• SPSS Modeler (SPSS Modeler service)
