Determining DASD subsystem serial number

To determine the serial number of a specific DASD subsystem, MVS command authorization is necessary. You can enter this command from the operator console or by using a product like System Display and Search Facility (SDSF).

You can enter the DEVSERV QDASD command against a volume to determine the serial number of a subsystem. The following output is an example of the command and response:

DS QDASD,0A90,RCD,1
IEE459I 14.51.17 DEVSERV QDASD 338
