Registering and managing assets

In IBM® IoT Connected Vehicle Insights, assets define the different vehicle data types that are retrieved and processed from connected vehicle devices. Assets also define the related environmental data about drivers, map sources, and other things that are meaningful to the connected car ecosystem. IBM IoT Connected Vehicle Insights provides asset management capabilities for you to manage connected vehicles and drivers and the relationships between them. The Asset Management component uses IBM Maximo Asset Management to provide a central point and interfaces for administration.

Master asset types

IBM IoT Connected Vehicle Insights includes the following master asset types:

• Maps
• Drivers
• Vehicles
• Event types
• Rules
• Tenants

You can also create and manage custom assets.

Asset administration interfaces

Maximo Asset Management portal

To manage the data for the master assets that are defined for your service, use the Maximo Asset Management portal that is integrated with the Asset Management component of IBM IoT Connected Vehicle Insights. The Asset Management component uses a Maximo Asset Management extension to provide a central point and interface for administering any type of asset that is related to connected vehicles. Most of the asset configuration and registration can be completed only from Maximo Asset Management.

You can find your Maximo Asset Management URLs and administration user credentials in your customer welcome letter.

Important note for new customers: Your Maximo Asset Management system maxadmin password is set to expire at the first login. When prompted, change the password by following the on-screen instructions.
