Why does DFSMSrmm reject tape volumes?

z/OS DFSMSrmm Implementation and Customization Guide
SC23-6874-00

In addition to validation, there are a number of reasons why a tape can be rejected when you are running DFSMSrmm in protect mode. Volumes can be rejected based on installation-controlled parmlib options and volume definitions or based on DFSMSrmm and system rules.

You can use PRTITION and OPENRULE commands to control library partitioning and the use of volumes by applications. See Implementing PRTITION and OPENRULE parmlib commands for additional information. If you use REJECT commands, you have to convert from the use of REJECT commands in order to use the PRTITION and OPENRULE commands. See Converting REJECT commands to PRTITION and OPENRULE commands for information about converting from the use of REJECT commands.
