DFSMS allows sharing of VSAM and non-VSAM data sets within different jobs in a single operating system or within different operating systems. To share between different operating systems, you need global resource serialization or an equivalent product.

Enhanced data integrity prevents accidental data loss when concurrent users are writing to a shared sequential data set.
