Use the Hardware Configuration Definition (HCD) to define I/O devices to the operating system and control these devices. DFSMS manages DASD, storage control units, magnetic tape devices, optical devices, and printers. You can use DFSMS functions to manage many different device types, but most functions apply specifically to one type or one family of devices.
