A system-supplied routine takes checkpoints at end-of-volume occurrences for multivolume data sets opened with QSAM, BSAM, or EXCP and can be invoked with a JCL parameter. Checkpoint at End-of-Volume contains a brief description of this routine. See z/OS DFSMS Using Data Sets.
