Abstract for z/OS® UNIX System Services Messages and Codes

Purpose of this information: Details about using IBM® z/OS UNIX System Services (z/OS UNIX) is presented. The debugger helps you find and fix errors in C and C++ programs that use z/OS UNIX facilities. Information is provided to help you identify and isolate problems that may occur in the shell or the debugger. It also helps you correct errors you make in entering commands or using them correctly. The shell and utilities messages are listed in alphanumeric order.

Only those messages with explanations are included. Both reason and return codes are listed by value. In addition, the /usr/sbin/init exit status codes are included.

Some commands in z/OS UNIX System Services Command Reference have messages that are not listed in this publication. For example, messages generated from the ld command can be found in z/OS MVS System Messages, Vol 8 (IEF-IGD).

Who should read this information? Users who are trying to resolve problems that might arise in z/OS UNIX in the shells and utilities or debugger. The list of users include the application and system programmer as well as the shell user.
