Recovering the data sets to SMS-managed volumes

The recovery action taken depends on whether a DFSMShsm backup version or a dump copy is used to recover the data set, and on whether the data set being recovered is a VSAM or non-VSAM data set. If you are recovering an existing data set, you must specify either REPLACE or NEWNAME. If you specify REPLACE, DFSMShsm replaces the existing data set with the recovered data set. If you specify NEWNAME, DFSMShsm recovers the data set with the NEWNAME data set name.

If an out-of-space condition causes the recovery of an SMS-managed data set to fail, the RECOVER DFDSSOPTION(VOLCOUNT(N(nn) | ANY)) command can be used to ensure the successful recovery of the data set. The RECOVER DFDSSOPTION(VOLCOUNT(N(nn) | ANY)) command overrides the environment established by the SETSYS VOLCOUNT command. If you do not know what your environment is, use the QUERY SETSYS command to determine the current operating environment.
